Anderton out at Z’hills

Zephyrhills High’s Rick Anderton won't be retained as head baseball coach, and the vacancy will be posted on the Pasco County School Board website this week, Zephyrhills principal Andy Frelick said. Anderton led the Bulldogs to a 6-18 record this season, ending with a first-round loss to Ridgewood in the Class 5A-District 8 tournament last week. Zephyrhills was outscored 175-102. The team was led by senior Blake Roberts, who batted .421, with 24 hits, 18 RBIs and two homers. Fellow senior Jordan Thomas also belted three homers. The Bulldogs baseball team has not had a winning season since 2009.
River Ridge’s Maisel commits River Ridge quarterback Josh Maisel said via Twitter he has committed to LaGrange College. “Ready to be a panther!” Maisel said. In the past two seasons, Maisel led the Royal Knights to a 10-10 record, while passing for 15 touchdowns and rushing for 12 more. Despite going 3-7 in 2012, Maisel passed for 1,002 yards. Maisel was named honorable mention on the Tribune's 2012 All Pasco County Football Team this past season. LaGrange is a Division III, private, liberal arts college in LaGrange, Ga., and the Panthers were 3-7 last season. Wiregrass signing ceremony slated Seven Wiregrass Ranch athletes will be present at a signing ceremony May 8 at the school's media center at 1 p.m. Football players Ryan Shea and John Coyne will sign with Valparaiso, while cross country standouts Patrick Hill, Thor Alastre and Marissa Ginn-Davis will sign with Saint Leo, Iowa Central Community College and Pasco-Hernando Community College, respectively. Baseball player Marcus Guzman will sign with St. Pete College, and girls soccer player Anne Cypriano will sign with Bridgewater College (Va.). These seven signees bring the Bulls’ total of 2013 signees to 14.
