License-free saltwater fishing open today
TALLAHASSEE - State wildlife officials are inviting the public to get out on the water for some saltwater fishing. Saturday is the first day of license-free fishing. That means saltwater recreational anglers can fish without a recreational fishing license as part of the state's license-free fishing days. Gag grouper is open for harvest in most state and all federal waters in the Gulf and Atlantic. There's also bay scallop and spiny lobster for those looking to get in the water. Or stay near-shore with spotted seatrout or red drum. Nick Wiley is the executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. He says he hopes residents and visitors can "discover a healthy sport they can enjoy for a lifetime."The state held two freshwater license-free fishing days earlier this year.
