UNIVERSITY AREA — Some guests at the recent University Area Community Development’s Corp. Secret Garden became “Believers,” making $500 pledges to support the University Area Harvest Hope Park, which includes an organic garden.
Others of the 175 guests bought auction items to help the park, which upon completion will include a large community garden, instructional kitchen and classroom, playground, sports field and tilapia fish farm.
The Sept. 25 event featured food and drink; entertainment by Davida Bowen, the staff’s DJ and Development Specialist for Prodigy/UACDC; cigars and a candy bar. Auction items included jewelry, beach getaways and tickets to various attractions. The total raised is pending.
UACDC is a nonprofit public/private partnership seeking to assist children and family development, crime prevention and commerce growth. Its primary focus is the redevelopment and sustainability of the at-risk areas surrounding the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida.
