LUTZ – So who's got the best tasting water in the Tampa Bay area?
Last year it was Hillsborough County, who'll be defending its title Feb. 28 at the Regional Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest. The battle will be for the Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest for Region IV of the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association.
About 20 public and private water utilities from Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sumter counties will compete.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. at Lake Park on 17302 N. Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz.
All water samples will be judged by a panel of water industry experts for taste, odor, and appearance. The winner will move on to represent the state in the battle for the Best of the Best title.
After the contest, Hillsborough County Public Utilities will provide tours of the Lake Park Water Treatment Plant. The plant provides more than 16 million gallons of water every day for more than 182,000 people in Tampa, Odessa and Lutz. Hillsborough offers four water treatment plants.
The event is annually organized by the Florida section of American Water Works to bring attention to the importance of safe tap water.
