Tuesday is deadline to register for Riverhills Elementary Magnet School
TEMPLE TERRACE - Parents have until Tuesday to submit an application to include their child's name in a lottery to attend Riverhills Elementary Magnet School this fall. The school at 405 Riverhills Drive is being converted from a traditional elementary school to accommodate a theme-based magnet program. Riverhills Elementary is in the process of becoming an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for kindergarten through fifth grade. It is on track to receive International Baccalaureate, or IB, status in three years.Students will be introduced to content using unified themes that integrate the curriculum, in concert with other world schools, Hillsborough schools choice communications manager Terrie Dodson said. They will develop a broad-based knowledge of global issues and become critical thinkers. A parent of an existing Hillsborough County public school child can apply online at www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/. However, an application submitted for a child entering the school district for the first time must be hand-delivered or mailed to the school choice offices at the school district headquarters on East Kenndy Boulevard downtown. Student enrollment numbers for Riverhills have not been set, Dodson said. Enrollment will depend on a computer-generated lottery. For more information, call the school district's choice helpline at (813) 272-4692 or visit the choice information page at http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/.
