TAMPA — Jay Blavatt has joined the administrative staff at King High School.
Blavatt, who was assistant principal of student affairs at Plant City High, this week began work in the same capacity at King High, 6815 N. 56th St.
He filled the position left vacant when Wayne Quin, King’s former assistant principal of student affairs, moved to an assistant principal post at Gary Adult High School on North 40th Street.
Blavatt, 37, chose to make a lateral move to the job at King High because he wanted to work there, he said.
“Coming into the area four years ago, King High was one of the areas that I targeted,” Blavatt said. “It’s one of the crown jewels of Hillsborough County.”
King High is a traditional school with one of the county’s four International Baccalaureate high school programs.
“I enjoyed my time at Plant City High and miss the kids,” he said.
Blavatt served two years at an assistant principal at a school in New Richmond, Ohio, near Cincinnati before moving to Hillsborough County four year ago.
He was an assistant principal at Plant City High for four years before transferring to King High.
Blavatt’s wife, Randi, is a teacher at Hunter’s Green Elementary in New Tampa, where the couple also live.
