Winter Haven man charged in 2011 killing of musician
An 18-year-old Winter Haven man was charged with first-degree murder today in the death of an Orlando musician last year, the Winter Haven Police Department said. Samuel Sweet Jr. was taken into custody today and booked into the Polk County Jail after a grand jury issued an indictment, police said. Along with murder, Sweet was charged with four counts of attempted robbery with a firearm and one count of tampering with physical evidence, police said. At around 1 a.m. Sept. 10, police were called to Jesse's Bar, 118 3rd St. S.W., Winter Haven. When investigators arrived, they found Ralph Ameduri Jr. shot.Ameduri, 45, was in an alley or parking lot behind the bar with several other people when Sweet allegedly approached them and tried to rob them, police said. Sweet allegedly fired one round that struck Ameduri in the head, police said. Sweet allegedly fled the scene and wasn't immediately found, police said. Ameduri was transported to Winter Haven Hospital and then flown by helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he died, police said.
