Tribune writer honored
Tampa Tribune staff reporter Michelle Bearden won three awards in the 2012 Excellence in Journalism competition at the annual Florida Press Club banquet Saturday in Malabar. Bearden, who covers faith and values for the Tampa Tribune and News Channel 8, placed second in Commentary Writing, second in Religion Writing and third in Light Feature Writing. Her winning entries included columns on her love of baseball and fulfilling a dream of owning a horse and stories about a local hospital's "Singing Volunteer," a community effort to buy artificial legs for a college student and finding a home for a late artist's massive religious sculpture. Former Tribune photographer Fred Bellet placed first and third in the Feature Photo Essay division.The Florida Press Club is a nonprofit organization that represents media professionals from news organizations throughout the state.
