A Tampa man is in custody this morning after police say he crashed into a school security officer’s vehicle after running a red light and fled the scene.
Police say school security Officer Alejandro Claudio was traveling southbound on North Nebraska Avenue, entering the intersection of East Columbus Drive, around 2 a.m. when he was struck by a 2003 Infiniti SUV driven by 25-year-old Josean Carrasquillo-Flores.
Carrasquillo-Flores was traveling eastbound on East Columbus Drive and ran a red light, striking Claudio in the passenger side before fleeing, police say.
Officers near the scene saw the crash, and an air and K-9 search was conducted after Carrasquillo-Flores’s vehicle was found abandoned in the 3800 block of East Columbus Drive.
Carrasquillo-Flores was found shortly after, police say.
Claudio suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized for observation, police say.
