A Tampa man suffered minor injuries this morning in a crash after he struck the side of a box truck, causing a fuel spill that tied up traffic on Interstate 4.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Guillermo Luis Consoro-Espinosa, 23, was driving a 1996 Honda sedan eastbound on I-4, east of 22nd Street, around 5:30 a.m. when he attempted to switch lanes.
Espinosa attempted to drive between a box truck, that was in front of him, and a tractor-trailer in the outside lane, troopers say.
As Espinosa was moving into the outside lane, troopers say he Espinosa lost control and struck a gas tank on the right side of the truck driven by Steven Dale Deem, 44, of Largo.
The impact caused Espinosa to spin into the roadway, where he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer driven by Yadir Pince, 39, of Wesley Chapel.
The crash caused a fuel spill that closed multiple lanes of I-4 for about two hours, troopers say.
Deem and Ponce were not injured, troopers say, and Espinosa faces a charge of careless driving.
