Teens arrested after breaking into Lakeland home, police say
Four juveniles were arrested after being caught breaking into a house Wednesday afternoon, Lakeland police said. About 1 p.m., police were called to a home in the 500 block of Arapahoe Avenue after a caller reported a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they saw four juveniles flee the home, jumping over a fence behind the home. The suspects fled again after being seen hiding in some bushes by officers, but were caught nearby, police said. A 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, and two 17-year-olds were taken into custody. The suspects had property belonging to the victim in their possession, police said, and a loaded handgun was found in a jacket that the suspects had discarded. The suspects were transported to the Lakeland Police Department and then to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Each of the suspects has been charged with burglary to a dwelling/armed, and one was also charged with false information to a law enforcement officer.
