Tampa Tribune reporter wins awards from Florida Press Club
Tampa Tribune staff reporter Michelle Bearden won three awards in the 2011 Excellence in Journalism contest, the Florida Press Club announced Saturday at its annual banquet in St. Augustine. Bearden, who has covered faith and values for The Tampa Tribune and WFLA-TV since 1994, won first place in the Class A division for Religion Writing, first place for Commentary Writing and second place in Light Feature Writing. Tribune correspondent Steven Solomon, who contributes to the Tribune's editorial pages, placed third in the contest for Commentary Writing. The awards are based on a collection of stories in each category. Bearden's stories also appeared on her "Keeping the Faith" segment on WFLA-TV.The Florida Press Club is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that represents journalists and related professionals who work in daily and weekly newspapers throughout the state.
