Suspect arrested in the stabbing of Gibsonton mother
The hunt for a 34-year-old man wanted in connection with the Monday stabbing of his ex-wife in Gibsonton has ended. Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Egan Fernando Atkins at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday after tracking him to 2805 Anthony St. in East Lake Orient Park. Atkins has been charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary of a dwelling. Investigators believe Atkins stabbed Nicole Renee Williams Atkins, 36, to death while she slept at her home at 12808 Lake Vista Drive. Early Monday morning, the suspect entered the home through a window and picked up a knife from the kitchen, the sheriff's office has said.The victim's four children and another adult were inside the house when the assailant broke in, the sheriff's office said. Neither the children nor the other adult were injured. Sheriff's deputies recovered the knife used in the attack outside the house, said J.D. Callaway, spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office.
