Sixth teen arrested in shooting at Lakeland Farmers Market
Another teen has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a coin and gun dealer at the Lakeland Farmers Market late last month, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Deputies say they have taken Kendall Wainwright, 14, of Lakeland, into custody. About 7:45 a.m. Nov. 24, two black men approached the victim's coin and gun booth at the market, 2701 Swindell Road, and told him they wanted to buy a gun, the sheriff's office said. When the victim refused, the suspects told him they would be back. A few minutes later, several men approached the victim's booth, according to the sheriff's office. One of the suspects used a hammer to smash the glass case of handguns. Another suspect shot the 79-year-old victim in the stomach with a handgun.Six teens have now been arrested and charged with armed robbery and attempted murder: Kendall Wainwright, 14, 1050 Atlantic Road, Lakeland. Bernando Copeland, 18, 1050 Atlantic Road, Lakeland. Khalid Preston, 17, 5848 Daughtery Downs Loop, Lakeland. Dante Morris, 15, 3215 Baird Ave., Lakeland. Ladarius Johnson, 16, 2025 W. Patterson St., Lakeland. Dwight Martin, 16, 1710 Kendrick Lane, Lakeland. The sheriff's office is looking for the remaining suspect, Davion "Day Day" Smith, 13, 707 Powder Horn Row, Lakeland. Anyone with information on Smith's whereabouts is asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863-298-6200. This investigation is ongoing.
