Sarasota man charged in homicide, caught in Hillsborough
A Sarasota man was arrested Thursday morning in south Hillsborough County and charged with murder, authorities said. Mauro F. Morales, 29, of 3101 Bee Ridge Road, is accused of killing 28-year-old Jesus Espinosa, who was found unconscious and bleeding Wednesday night in a Sarasota street. Morales was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail with no bail set. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report and discovered Espinosa in the road near his home on the 1500 block of North Orange Avenue, police said. Emergency personnel attempted to treat him but he died from his injuries, police said.The death was classified as a homicide. Morales was driving north into Hillsborough when officers contacted him by phone. The officers talked Morales into stopping and remaining at his location until Hillsborough sheriff's deputies arrived, police said. After interviewing Morales and investigating further, Sarasota detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging him in Espinosa's slaying. Deputies did not release how Espinosa died.
