A Ruskin man died Wednesday morning after his car struck a tractor-trailer that was exiting Interstate 75 in east Hillsborough County, troopers said.
Giscard A. Frederique, 35, died from his injuries after being transported to Tampa General Hospital, troopers said.
The collision occurred at 6:44 a.m. as the flatbed semitrailer exited northbound I-75 at College Avenue (State Road 674) in Ruskin, troopers said.
The driver, Thomas Wayne Crawford, 55, of Bradenton, observed the stop sign and proceeded to turn left onto westbound College Avenue in front of Frederique’s 2011 Nissan Altima, troopers said.
Frederique was unable to stop and his Nissan collided with the left side of the fladbed trailer just east of the I-75, troopers said. After impact, the Nissan rotated counter-clockwise until stopping in the center median, troopers said.
The rig, operated by Atlantic Trucking, of Sarasota, was hauling construction casings.
Charges are pending, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
