Data supplied by the Southwest Florida Water Management District shows the approximate location of permitted irrigation wells in the area surrounding the Raytheon Plant. A number of these wells are actively used by residents for lawn watering and other irrigation needs. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says there is no known contamination of private irrigation wells by the toxic chemicals that are showing up in nearby test wells.

Known contaminated wells
This is a map based on data obtained from the Florida DEP that shows the location of test wells where underground contaminates (leaked years ago from the Raytheon plant site when it was owned by E-Systems) are showing up in groundwater. FDEP says the toxic plume of groundwater contaminants is spreading into residential neighborhoods. Assessment of the contamination by Raytheon’s environmental consulting firm Arcadis is still underway. The full extent of the problem and any potential risk to nearby residents and their property remains unknown.
Red marker represents location of the Raytheon facility. Yellow markers represent locations of known contaminated wells, with details of their contaminants. Since the investigation started, six more irrigation wells tested positive for groundwater contamination. They are designated with blue markers.
