Puppy left in canal now healthy, ready for adoption
Lotus, an abused pit bull mix found floating in May in an alligator-infested canal in St. Petersburg, has healed and is now ready for adoption. "Lotus has been an absolute joy to have at the shelter," said Megan Trethewey of Pet Pal Animal shelter. "Everyone's fallen in love with her." When the puppy was rescued, she wore a leather collar with a lock and chain connected to an electrical cord and a piece of wood. She was 6 months old and suffered from dehydration and a severe skin infection with bleeding and sores. But now Lotus is a healthy, loving dog that the shelter hopes to pair with someone who would love and care for her, Trethewey said.Though she's a puppy, Lotus is calm, sweet and walks well on a leash, Trethewey said. Those interested in adopting Lotus can call the shelter at (727) 328-7738.
