TAMPA — A Road Ranger was seriously injured when a drunk driver ran into the back of his truck on Interstate 275 and both vehicles burst into flame, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The collision at 3:15 a.m. on I-275 near Busch Boulevard closed portions of the highway until 6 a.m.
Brian Nelson Barrett, 42, of Wimauma, was headed north on I-275 in his Road Ranger truck, a 2014 Chevrolet, when 32-year-old Eldy Cartaya Dominguez of Tampa, driving a 2017 Toyota Camry, ran into it, the Highway Patrol said.
Both vehicles erupted in flames.
Barrett was taken to Tampa General Hospital with injuries deemed serious, the Highway Patrol said.
Dominguez received minor injuries and later was arrested on charges of DUI-property damage and DUI-injury.
