PINELLAS PARK — Two Boca Ciega High School students were arrested for having a loaded semi-automatic handgun with them at a Friday night football game at Pinellas Park High School.
The two teenagers have been charged with possession of a weapon on school property.
A spectator told police they saw the teens showing the gun off while it was inside a backpack during the game between Pinellas Park and Robinson High School. Police said the .45-caliber handgun had two loaded rounds.
The students told police they had the gun earlier while at school in St. Petersburg.
Police said the gun was not reported stolen and it was still unclear how or where the students got the gun.
"Pinellas County Schools takes student safety seriously," said Pinellas County Schools spokeswoman Lisa Wolf. "Weapons are not permitted on any school campus. The school district will assist the Pinellas Park Police Department as they complete their investigation, and disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct."
