ODESSA — A teacher's assistant at Hammond Elementary School was arrested Wednesday for stealing a wallet from another assistant, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Sylvia Clark, 58, faces charges of grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.
The Sheriff's Office said the incident took place Sept. 5. A Hammond Elementary teacher's assistant was watching students play during recess. Clark and another school employee were sitting at the same table outside.
The other assistant, who deputies did not identify, placed her purse on the table and got up to help a student. Clark then took the assistant's wallet from her purse, the contents of which was valued at $340.
That same day, the assistant's stolen credit card was used at the Publix at 15151 Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa. Surveillance video revealed that it was Clark using the credit card, deputies said.
The other assistant used the video footage to identify Clark, deputies said.
Clark was freed from the Hillsborough County jail on Wednesday after posting $2,500 bond.
