ZEPHYRHILLS — A 2-month-old child was taken to All Children's Hospital with multiple skull fractures Saturday afternoon, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, and a 24-year-old man has been arrested.
The infant boy had suffered "abusive head trauma," a doctor said, according to a sheriff's report.
The child was listed in critical condition Sunday. No further details were available Monday.
Deputies arrested Jacob Brattain, 24, of Zephyrhills on Sunday and charged him with aggravated child abuse. Brattain said he did not know how the child was injured, deputies said.
The child suffered a "seizure-like episode where he stiffened up and then passed out," according to the Sheriff's Office.
Authorities would not identify who called 911.
A doctor with the child protection team said the child likely sustained "high-velocity blows" to the head minutes before passing out, the Sheriff's Office said.
When these injuries occurred, deputies said, Brattain was the only person taking care of the child. Authorities did not explain the relationship between Brattain and the injured infant.
