Armless transient man stabs tourist with scissors on South Beach

Jonathan Crenshaw was often seen on the streets of South Beach painting canvas with his brush between his toes. But Tuesday, the 46-year-old transient artist was arrested and accused of stabbing a Miami tourist with a pair of scissors.

Just after midnight, Miami Beach Police say, Crenshaw clutched a pair of scissors with his feet and stabbed Cesar Coronado, 22, who was visiting Miami from Chicago, reports the Miami Herald.

Crenshaw reportedly told police that he was lying down when Coronado approached him and punched him in the head twice. Crenshaw then got up and used the scissors in self defense and quickly walked off, police said.

Officers found Coronado lying on the ground, bleeding from his left arm. Paramedics transported him to the Mount Sinai Medical Center for treatment.

Coronado was visiting the area with his friend from Chicago. Both of them said that Coronado had approached Crenshaw for directions when the man jumped up and stabbed him.

Police found Crenshaw nearby after he was described to officers as a homeless man without arms. Crenshaw told police that he was defending himself when he was apprehended.

Crenshaw is now being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $7,500 bond. His court date will be on July18.
