Tampa motorcyclist dies in crash on State Road 574

TAMPA — A Tampa motorcyclist died on Wednesday after running a red light on State Road 574 and crashing into a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Vance Ralph Eldridge Jr., 27, was riding a Suzuki motorcycle west on State Road 574, also called Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, approaching Interstate 4.

Heading in the same direction was Donna Gail Exum, 57, of Plant City, who was driving a Toyota 4Runner.

As Exum turned left onto I-4 with a green turn arrow, Eldridge rode into the intersection under a red light and crashed into the Toyota, the FHP said.

The motorcycle then continued into the eastbound lanes of SR 574 and hit another car.

Eldridge was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died. The other drivers were not hurt.
