FHP: Tampa driver killed after hitting disabled truck on I-275 median

TAMPA — A 27-year-old Tampa man was killed Monday morning when his 2015 Ford Mustang collided with a disabled truck sitting in the median separating Interstate 275 and a Dale Mabry Highway on-ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at about 7:16 a.m. Ivan Olvera Rangel was driving at a high rate of speed in the Mustang when he left Dale Mabry and entered the on-ramp onto I-275. Then the Mustang cut through the media and struck the rear of a disabled 2005 Freightliner truck.

The impact pushed the truck forward, the FHP said, causing it to strike the driver, Chris Cobian, 47, of Brandon, who was standing outside his vehicle. Rangel was pronounced dead at the scene. Cobian suffered minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital.
