Driver flees after crash that sends SUV into St. Petersburg building

ST. PETERSBURG — Police are seeking a driver who fled the scene of a crash that sent a sport utility vehicle into a downtown building Monday afternoon.

Police say a Toyota Camry and a BMW SUV crashed on Fourth Street near Fifth Avenue S about 12:15 p.m.

The SUV took out a fire hydrant and tore through the front doors of the American Dialysis Center at 446 Fourth St. S.

One person in the building was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The driver of the sedan ran from the scene, officers said, while two passengers in the SUV were not injured.

The Interstate 175 exit to Fourth Street N was blocked after the crash, as was the road from Fourth to Sixth avenues S.
