ST. PETERSBURG — A bicyclist who police said ran a red light and was struck by a car last week died over the weekend.
Mark William Napier, 51, was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in critical condition, police said. He died on Saturday evening.
The incident took place around 9:21 p.m. that night.
Police say that Stephanie Brown, 26, of St. Petersburg, was driving a 2004 4-door Cadillac westbound in the middle lane on 62nd Avenue N on Monday night 9:10 p.m. as Napier was riding in the west crosswalk at the intersection of 16th Street N.
Brown was approaching the intersection and had a green light when Napier rode into her path, police said.
Brown struck the left side of the bicycle, sending Napier into the windshield and over the roof, police said.
Napier, who was not wearing a helmet, landed on the pavement, police said. Brown was not injured.
