BROOKSVILLE — A 16-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old boy critically injured after their car was struck by a pick-up truck at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Country Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place at 3:33 p.m. Garret Herman, 17, of Brooksville, was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang south on U.S. 19. Seth Leathers rode in the passenger seat. Eugene Bonano, 60, of Brooksville, was driving a 2013 Dodge pick-up truck in the north outside lane of U.S. 19.
The Mustang attempted to turn left onto Country Road, the FHP said, when it cut off the pick-up. The Dodge crashed into the right passenger side of the Mustang, the FHP said.
Leathers was pronounced dead at the scene. Herman was flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa and reported to be in critical condition, the FHP said. Bonano was not injured.
Everyone involved in the crash was wearing their seat belt. Charges may be pending in this crash, troopers said.
