Tampa: Overturned construction vehicle spills tar and sealant on U.S. 301

TAMPA — A construction vehicle overturned and spilled tar and sealant across the intersection of U.S. 301 and the Selmon Expressway early Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place at about 1:10 a.m. A construction vehicle driven by Robin Richards, 51, of Holiday, was traveling north on U.S. 301 in the left lane when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn at the intersection of the Selmon Expressway, the FHP said.

Brandi Allen, 21, of Riverview, was driving a 2008 Honda Civic south on U.S. 301 when she struck the truck, according to the FHP. She was not injured in the crash.

The truck continued westbound on the expressway, overturned and came to a rest near the northbound entrance ramp of U.S. 301. Richards was not injured. The truck’s load of tar and sealant spilled across the intersection, closing the road until crews could clean it up around 5:30 a.m.
