A man who was swimming off Lido Beach got caught in a rip current and drowned Sunday night.
According to the Sarasota Police Department, the unidentified man was swimming with a woman near Big Pass, a boater channel, around 10 p.m. before becoming caught in a rip current, police say.
The woman was able to make it to shore before police arrived.
Around 10:45 p.m., the man’s body was found on the beach near the 200 block of Benjamin Franklin Drive, police say.
According to police, CPR was performed but the man was pronounced dead 15 minutes later.
Detectives suspect no foul play and that the incident appears to be an accident.
