Tampa’s landlords should consider themselves officially on notice: Let your property repeatedly run afoul of city codes and you will soon have to explain yourself to a judge.
During an hour-long discussion Thursday morning, Tampa City Council laid out the rules by which property owners can be declared chronic code violators and earn themselves a trip to court.
That label will be reserved for owners who violate the same city code on the same non-homesteaded property three times in a year.
Thursday’s workshop hashed out the definition. The city council still must pass an ordinance at a future meeting to make it official.
