County Commissioner Les Miller leaves hospital after battling flu
TAMPA - Hillsborough County Commissioner Les Miller was back at home Wednesday after a three-day hospital stay battling the flu. Miller said he started feeling sick last Thursday, thinking it was a cold. However, his condition worsened and about 4a.m. Sunday, Miller told his wife, Gwen, he needed to go to the hospital. Doctors told Miller he had Type A influenza and needed to be admitted. "It's very dangerous for us senior citizens," said Miller, 61. Miller said Wednesday that he was feeling better, though "not out of the woods yet."In 2005, Miller developed kidney cancer and now has just one functioning kidney. In 2007 he developed prostate cancer. "Being a cancer survivor with one kidney, there's some viruses you can't fight off," he said. Miller is in the first year of his second term.
