Pet telethon exceeds goals with $168,480

A lot of tails will be wagging with joy at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay thanks to donors' generosity. The five-hour event on WFLA, News Channel 8, this afternoon raised $168,480. The goal was to raise $150,000, said Nancy McCall, director of development for the Humane Society. During the 10th Annual Pet Telethon, viewers got a chance to adopt dogs and cats, as well as more unusual pets such as pigs, snakes and alligators. Dave Nemeth and Cyndi Edwards of "Daytime" were the hosts.
Money raised will help the shelter provide services such as the low-cost spay and neuter clinic and a free food program for underprivileged pet owners.
