Man Accused Of Rape, Abuse
NEW PORT RICHEY - A 29-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night, accused of beating and raping a woman after they had an argument. At 7 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call about a domestic disturbance. The victim said Jason Taylor, of 5608 LaSalle Court, had struck her several times and choked her, according to police. The woman's 6-year-old son tried to intervene, and Taylor knocked the child to the ground, police said. Taylor attempted to leave with three toddler-age girls but knocked their stroller over, causing them to tumble to the ground, police said. The mother tried to call 911, but Taylor grabbed the phone and destroyed it and then left the home, according to police. When police arrived, they discovered that the woman had been raped after she said she was given a substance that knocked her out, Lt. Jeffery Harrington said. The incident was "horrendous," Harrington said. According to an arrest affidavit, the woman awoke Tuesday morning on her living room floor, naked from the waist down. Taylor lay naked asleep next to her, the affidavit said, and sex toys, pornographic movies and photographs of the woman were strewn across the floor nearby. Shortly after 7 p.m., police tracked down Taylor at his home and arrested him. After being read his rights, "he basically corroborated everything the victim said," Harrington said. Taylor is being held without bail at the Land O' Lakes Jail on charges of sexual battery, battery by strangulation, tampering with a witness and four counts of child abuse. The children and mother didn't receive injuries that required hospitalization, police said. A sexual assault examination was performed on the woman and evidence was collected, Harrington said.
