A Pasco County man was killed this morning when he was struck by a car while crossing U.S. 19 in a motorized wheelchair.
Raymond T. Hook Jr., 65, of Hudson, was attempting to cross about 100 feet north of Beach Boulevard in dark conditions in Hudson around 7 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Lorri Bocik Vuozzo, 54, of Hudson, who was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck southbound in the center lane of U.S. 19, did not see Hook in the road and struck him, the FHP said.
Patrick D. Hanlon, 74, of Watertown, N.Y., changed from the outside lane to the center lane in a Ford F-150 pickup truck to avoid a collision but ran into debris, the FHP said.
Hook died at the scene, the FHP said.
The FHP said Hook was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
An investigation is ongoing.
