The DeSoto Park Community Center in Palmetto Beach is in the middle of a $265,000 rehabilitation project.
Repairs began last month at the center in the 2600 block of Corrine Street. Barring unexpected delays, work should be complete by mid-September.
The small building is vital to Palmetto Beach and is used for community association meetings and community events such as a Halloween haunted house, said Jennifer Willman, president of the Palmetto Beach Community Association.
"The renovations were very much needed," Willman said. "There were holes in the floor and it was becoming unsafe."
During the project, the city will set up two portables for use for summer and after-school camp programs and community meetings, said Peg Bors, a landscape architect with the city's parks and recreation department.
