Michael Lohan denied bail
A Hillsborough County judge this morning denied bail for Michael Lohan. The father of actress and tabloid queen Lindsay Lohan was transferred to a Hillsborough County jail Friday evening after being released from Tampa General Hospital. Lohan was hospitalized after he fell 34 feet from the roof of the Tahitian Inn while trying to elude police. Lohan first was arrested Tuesday, accused of beating his on-again, off-again girlfriend Kate Major. Authorities said Lohan, 51, violated terms of that release by calling Major hours after he posted $5,000 bail on Wednesday. Major, a former reporter for The Star tabloid, told Tampa police Lohan had threatened her. When officers went to the Tahitian Inn on South Dale Mabry Highway to arrest Lohan, he tried to run away and possibly broke his foot in the fall, police said. Major was at the bail hearing this morning before Hillsborough Circuit Judge Denise Pomponio. Major testified Lohan called her after his release from jail Wednesday, despite another judge's order to Lohan not to contact Major. Lohan told Pomponio that's impossible; someone else had his cell phone. After this morning's proceeding, Major said she is glad Lohan now will be held without bail: "I'm thrilled. I can sleep at night knowing he's in jail." Asked if she thought Lohan is dangerous, she replied, "Absolutely." Lohan has denied beating Major. His attorney, Michael Perry, said Major is making false claims for financial gain. "I think it's about money," Perry said after today's bail hearing. "I think Miss Major's trying to make money off this and the publicity."
