Student Attacked With Box Cutter, Deputies Say
LAKELAND - A 16-year-old Kathleen High student was accused Thursday of slashing another student with a box cutter, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
Jenny Cayo of 7743 Canterbury Circle was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and aggravated battery.
According to deputies, the 17-year-old female victim was cut at 6:45 a.m. in the school's cafeteria. Cayo ran into another building. When the school's resource deputy arrested her, a razor blade was found in her back pocket. The box cutter has not been found.
The victim suffered a superficial 4-inch cut on the side of her neck.
Cayo and the victim had an ongoing verbal dispute, sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Rodgers said.
The Polk County School Board expelled Cayo.
