ST. PETERSBURG - The Green Armada and other community organizations are planning what could be the largest cleanup effort in Pinellas County history.
The Green Armada, the city of St. Petersburg, the city of Gulfport and others have come together to plan a Clam Bayou cleanup on June 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Thurgood Marshall Middle School, 3901 22nd Ave. S., St. Petersburg.
The cleanup begins at the 42{+n}{+d} Street entrance to Clam Bayou, which is in both St. Petersburg and Gulfport.
"The Clam Bayou cleanup initiative presents a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together," St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker said. "As Florida's first designated 'Green City,' St. Petersburg is committed to clean up our community. The bayou is a resource we all share, and it's up to us to take responsibility for its environmental well-being."
Volunteers can register online at www.greenarmada.org. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes with thick rubber soles, sunscreen and appropriate outdoor clothing. A shuttle will run from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to transport participants from the school to Clam Bayou.
