Manatee deputy shoots dog that lunged at her

A Manatee County deputy shot a dog today while responding to a report of another dog biting a 3-year-old child in the face. According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, this is what happened: About 12:30 p.m., the deputy went with Animal Control officers to 3311 13th St. E. after receiving a report that a pitbull had bitten a child, causing a facial injury that required medical attention. The occupants of the residence refused to answer the door. The deputy began to walk to the back of the residence when she was confronted by a second pitbull. The animal lunged at the deputy, and she shot the dog in the right front paw.
The dog was taken by the owners to a local vet to receive treatment. Animal Control impounded the dog that bit the child. The child was treated at Manatee Memorial and released.
