Man seriously injured in 40-foot fall from John's Pass Bridge
A 31-year-old man was seriously injured after falling head-first 40 feet from John's Pass Bridge onto the concrete structure below on Friday night, deputies said. Joseph Schleg, of Pinellas Park, was fishing on the bridge about 10:45 p.m. As he walked along the bridge, he apparently did not see an opening along the bridge catwalk and fell through, deputies said. Schleg was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center and was treated for a skull fracture and long bone fractures, among other injuries, deputies said. The incident appears to be an accident, deputies said.
