Lohan's father released from jail
TAMPA - The embattled father of troubled actress Lindsay Lohan walked out of Hillsborough County's Orient Road Jail just after 6 p.m. Wednesday and told a throng of reporters he's innocent of charges he battered his ex-girlfriend. "God knows what happened," Michael Lohan said. "Kate (Major) knows what happened. I know what happened. I didn't lay a hand on her." He repeatedly told reporters he is innocent and said this is how Major makes her money, creating a scene and then selling the story. Major, 28, is a former reporter for The Star tabloid. Lohan was arrested early Tuesday on domestic battery charges. He was accused of beating up Major, his on-again, off-again girlfriend."I didn't do anything; I got witnesses," said Lohan, who also said Major has all his belongings, including his clothes and jewelry. After speaking to reporters outside the jail for a few minutes, Lohan told them he was headed to the Tahitian Inn on Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, if they wanted to continue the conversation. Lohan was granted bail Wednesday morning, but a judge ruled that he wouldn't be released from jail until after 6 p.m. Domestic violence defendants automatically are held without bail until their first court appearance. Judge Walter Heinrich Jr. had ordered Lohan held until authorities could find out whether a warrant had been issued out of Sarasota County involving an injunction for protection sought by Kate Major. She had received a temporary injunction against Lohan ordering him to have no contact with her. Heinrich set bail at $5,000 and cautioned Lohan against having any contact with Major, who wasn't at the hearing. "You even dream of her," Heinrich told Lohan, "and you're going to jail." Police arrested Lohan early Tuesday after being called to a condominium complex in West Tampa. Major told police the two had been arguing over sex. She said he squeezed her arms and pushed her several times, knocking her to the ground, the arrest report states. She said she was bruised, but refused medical treatment. Lohan's lawyer said his client will fight the charges. "We'll defend all the allegations and we're going to be denying everything," said Sarasota defense attorney Michael Perry.
