Lightning may have caused house fire in Brandon
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue say lightning may be to blame for a house fire in Brandon this afternoon. About 3:55 p.m., units were called to a residential structure fire at 1405 Lido Drive. The occupants, two adults and a dog, were able to get out of the house before units arrived. The residents said they heard a loud noise and something hitting the house during a storm, then minutes later they smelled smoke. A second alarm was called because of the size of the house. Crews found the fire was in the attic space, and it took about 25 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Damage was contained to the attic. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental. Red Cross was called to assist the residents with shelter. No injuries were reported.
