Lakeland dad, three kids killed in Lake County crash
A Lakeland father and his three children are dead after a single-vehicle crash Friday night in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported. Wilfredo Malave, 41, was driving a 2009 four-door Mercedes Benz on State Road 33 near Groveland Airport Road, west of Orlando, at about 6:45 p.m. when the vehicle left the pavement, striking several trees and a pole before continuing onto the shoulder. The car stopped when the roof struck a tree, troopers said. Malavo and his 9-year-old son Zion were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Phoenix Malave,7 and Avaya Malave, 2, died at Southlake Hospital in Clermont. According to a Highway Patrol news release, everyone in the car was wearing either seat belts or child restraints at the time of the crash.
