Hillsborough deputy in serious condition after crash
TAMPA - A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy was badly injured after the patrol car in which he was riding and another vehicle collided on Falkenburg Road this afternoon. Michael Hannaford, 30, was in serious condition at Tampa General Hospital. The driver of the patrol car, deputy Christopher Maffei, received minor injuries and was expected to be treated and released this evening from Tampa General. Sheriff's officials said the accident happened when Maffei, 28, was making a left turn onto Windhorst Road from Falkenburg on the way to the sheriff's office parking lot. A Ford Taurus driven by 32-year-old Teresa Tymes of Tampa was southbound on Falkenburg and hit the patrol car in the middle of the intersection. "At this time no determination has been made as to the cause of the accident or who may have been at fault,'' a sheriff's office press release stated.Hannaford was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by emergency workers, who had to cut away part of the patrol car in the process. Tymes was not injured.
