Hillsborough deputies arrest man suspected of robbing Tampa bank
Hillsborough County sheriffs arrested a man on Friday, hours after they say he robbed a bank in the Forest Hills area of Tampa. Deputies say Randy Lee Davis, walked into the Wells Fargo Bank at 12233 N. Florida Ave. around 9:15 a.m. Friday and handed a teller a note that demanded cash. Davis, who indicated he had a weapon, was given an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the bank, deputies say. Davis was seen getting into 1999 Oldsmobile Alero and heading south toward downtown Tampa. Hillsborough County deputies and officers with the Tampa Police Department began searching for the suspect and soon spotted his vehicle in a shopping center at West Waters Avenue and North Armenia Avenue.Deputies and officers surrounded the shopping plaza and continued searching for Davis. Davis was spotted on the sidewalk outside a business at the shopping plaza. Davis was detained and questioned about the robbery and later admitted to the robbery, deputies say. The money from the robbery was recovered from the vehicle and a knife was taken from Davis's possession. Detectives indicated that Davis recently arrived from North Carolina and borrowed the car used in the robbery from a friend. Law enforcement officials will conduct an investigation into whether Davis is involved with any previous bank robberies.
