TAMPA — On the day of his fatal fall during a show in Tampa, a Cirque du Soleil acrobat posted on Instagram that he would be performing a new act for the first time.
"After so much work and training and staging, our straps duo act is finally in the show tonight. It’ s time to go for it," veteran aerialist Yann Arnaud said in the post Saturday.
Arnaud lost his grip on an aerial ring and fell to the stage Saturday night during a performance of the show "Volta" in Cirque du Soleil tents erected for the Feb. 14-March 18 show at Tampa Greyhound Track.
Cirque du Soleil said it will investigate the incident. The Tampa Police Department is also investigating, although a department spokesman said in a statement that the fall appeared to be accidental.
An autopsy was scheduled Monday by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office, Tampa police spokesman Steve Hegarty said.
Fans and loved ones expressed their condolences on social media.
