Jim Reif, a meteorologist in the Fort Myers television market for more than three decades, died Monday night from injuries sustained in a bicycle crash.
Reif, 61, was riding his bicycle on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway on Sunday and hit a sign, according to WBBH-TV, where he worked as director of meteorology. The impact threw him to the ground and he hit his head on the curb.
It was unclear what caused the crash or whether he was wearing a helmet.
Reif reported on weather in the Fort Myers market since 1979, when he started with WINK-TV. He then became chief meteorologist for WZVN-TV in 1999 before moving to WBBH-TV.
WBBH-TV said Reif recently was engaged to be married.
