Driver hurt, part of S.R. 60 closed after Lake Wales crash
A truck driver is hurt and part of State Road 60 is closed in Lake Wales after his vehicle struck a guardrail and flipped Thursday morning. About 7:10 a.m. Thomas Cordell Farley, 58, of Palmetto, was headed west on State Road 60 in a tractor-trailer towing an empty gravel truck when he lost control of the vehicle, three miles east of County Road 630, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The truck, operated for Christina Cole Trucking of Palmetto, traveled onto the westbound shoulder and the front of the truck hit a guardrail at a bridge overpass, FHP said. The truck turned counter-clockwise and flipped onto its roof, and stopped facing south in standing water under the bridge. Farley was taken to Lake Wales Hospital with minor injuries.About 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the water, and part of S.R. 60 is closed to remove the truck and clean up the spill, the highway patrol report said. FHP said charges are pending.
