Body of Bradenton 6-year-old recovered
LONGBOAT PASS -
The body of 6-year-old Lamontea Taylor, who disappeared while swimming at Coquina Beach on Saturday, was recovered this morning near Longboat Pass. The body was found by officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, officials said. Manatee County sheriff’s deputies informed the boy’s mother. The search for the child turned into a recovery mission late Sunday, and authorities informed his mother, Laketa Taylor, the body must be submerged. According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, the boy's 15-year-old brother saw Lamontea and some of his cousins struggling offshore Saturday when they were supposed to be at the beach's playground. Rip currents had swept the children south toward Longboat Pass, the quarter-mile-wide strait between Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key that is off limits to swimmers. Lamontea attended kindergarten at Samoset Elementary School in Bradenton.
